Clinical Corner

As you are all aware, we have a secure Memory Care Neighborhood here at Stevens. This area is designed for the safety and life enrichment of our patients with memory problems and dementia. Though some residents with dementia function very well and safely in our general environment, some tend to “wander” and may forget where they are. Those patients may not necessarily be appropriate for our secure Memory Care Neighborhood just because they “wander” occasionally. We are excited to announce that we now have a WanderGuard system in place for the in between of general environment and secure Memory Care Neighborhood. With our Memory Care Transitions program, appropriate residents can remain safely in our general environment wearing a bracelet that alarms when residents get near an exit. With the alarms, our staff is able to approach and redirect the resident away from the exit to maintain their safety. Please give us a call if you would like to know more about our Memory Care Transitions program.

Sincerely,

Tammy Blain, rn, bsn – Director of Nursing
